RTL – Ottos Märchenshow
— Die Ottifanten

Reimagining iconic characters for
a televised entertainment production

Project Summary

For RTL’s Ottos Märchenshow, a live television program featuring the renowned German comedian Otto Waalkes, our team produced background animations and visuals featuring Otto’s famous “Ottifanten.” My task was to recreate these iconic characters in Otto’s distinctive style and prepare them for animation, ensuring accuracy and liveliness on screen.
I also contributed by sourcing and curating imagery for the show’s animated background sequences.

Client

RTL is one of Germany’s largest private television broadcasters. Ottos Märchenshow combined music, comedy, storytelling, and animation in a modern TV format.

My Role & Contribution

• Redrawing and preparing the Ottifanten characters for animation in Otto Waalkes’s original style

• Supporting image research for animated background scenes

• Collaboration with motion designers to ensure stylistic continuity

What I Learned

This project deepened my understanding of style adaptation and the precision required when working with iconic, pre-established characters. It also offered valuable insight into the collaborative dynamics and production workflow of live television.
