Stories from the Ashtray
The Art that turns a blank canvas into
a sequential projection of our minds.
Project Summary
This work was the second, practical part of my Bachelor Thesis, both created within a span of 6 weeks. The book, originally named by its german title: “Geschichten aus dem Aschenbecher”, is a collection of 30 short stories, depicting relatable events of personal experience, such as everyday profanities with a twist of distinct thoughts around it. Starting with a near empty ashtray, the stories progress from lighthearted gifts of everyday life, to deeper, more serious events. Each chapter is visually presented in the form of a slowly filling ashtray, referring to the ongoing night and growing openness of the speaker.
As an ongoing project, new stories have joined the ashtray of our lives and so did new speakers, creating a more diverse form of storytelling, allowing even more perspectives to join. In order to test drive the stories to a much wider audience, I’ve created a webtoon account. Its new format and translation into English makes it possible to be available and free to read for everyone.
Project Summary
As a combination of literature and video, comics give us the ability to pass on visual information in our own time and paste. A medium that allows us to translate a vast amount of information into great works of informative design, literature and art, making it easy and quicker to understand, regardless of language, culture and age.

What I learned from it
I learned what it means to see the beauty in the ordinary. The magic in the unseen and the words within the silence. To write, draw and publish this book has been a pleasure for my soul, and given the feedback also to the audience. It has also been a mirror to m inner insecurities and fear of failure.
The biggest thing Ive learned from crafting this book and its temporary continuation, is that it needs a team to create something that is ment for the world.
